MARITIME IRON’S ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT REPORT IS PUBLICLY REGISTERED

January 20, 2020, Toronto - Maritime Iron Inc. is pleased to announce that its Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Report for the proposed merchant pig iron production facility in Belledune, New Brunswick has been publicly registered by the New Brunswick Department of Environment and Local Government (NBDELG).

Maritime Iron’s Chairman and CEO Greg McKenzie said, “The registry of Maritime Iron’s EIA Report by NBDELG is a critical milestone and advances our goal of bringing innovative technology to Canada for sustainable ironmaking. This project represents an opportunity to move forward with environmentally responsible industrial development with a strong partner in NB Power. We are looking forward to the technical expert review and will continue to advance this project in a manner that respects the importance of land and water for Aboriginals and non-Aboriginals in the area.”

The proposed Belledune Iron Processing Facility will create a by-product gas that can be transmitted to the adjacent NB Power Generating Station. The result will be a 50% reduction in its coal use and the production of cleaner energy.

The EIA Report describes the Project and its potential environmental effects, as well as measures to avoid or minimize environmental effects throughout the project construction, operations, decommissioning, and closure phases. The EIA Report was prepared by Stantec Inc. and represents more than a year of work by Maritime Iron and its engineering consultants.

NBDELG will assemble a Technical Review Committee (TRC) to undertake the Environmental Impact Assessment review. As the lead proponent, Maritime Iron will respond to questions and information requests by the TRC. The public registry of the Environmental Impact Assessment Report is available at:
